Spelt Scones

This recipe is a great alternative to bread. Making scones instead of bread is quicker, uses less ingredients and means you can virtual make the quantities to order and your bread will always be fresh and warm. Yummy!

Ingredients
2 cups organic spelt flour
60g organic butter
3/4 cup organic milk
(if this mixture makes the scones a little dense for your liking, add baking powder)

Method
Put flour and chilled chopped butter in a bowl.  Rub flour and butter together until resembles something a little like chunky bread crumbs.  Make a hole in the centre and pour milk.  Stir together until it binds.  Sprinkle some flour on bench and knead mixture lightly.  Roll out and with round cookie cutter cut as many scones as possible (if you dont have round cookie cutters, cups also do a great job). Warm oven at 150 degrees Celsius. Place on baking paper and cook for 15mins or until light brown.

Recipe Review:
Well even though I have not been an experienced scone maker, I was pretty much able to nail these from the first go. I now make scones for my family about three - four times a week, which I think is great. We wont be buying bread anymore.

Organic Recipe Rating:
Cost Rating - 4.5/5 - these scones are as cheap as chips. At a cost around 25c per serve, they make the perfect staple for breakfast and lunch.

Preparation Rating - 4.5/5 The hardest thing here is taking the time to knead the dough, but to not over knead. I got it pretty good from the first go, so it really isnt that hard.

Taste Rating - 4.5/5 I dont think scones come any better actually. While these are a little more dense than traditional scones, when they are hot they taste just sooo good.

Overall Family Rating 9/10 - This is definately a recipe that ticks all the boxes. Easy to make, tasty and great for a budget. Cooking these scones means that I dont have to worry about preservative 220 ending up in my kids lunch box.
